Château Mukhrani

A royal estate born of the 19th century, where European elegance meets Georgia's ancient winemaking spirit — producing wines of lasting distinction.

A Royal Heritage of Wine

Château Mukhrani was founded by Prince Ivane Mukhranbatoni, a member of Georgia's ancient Mukhrani branch of the Bagrationi royal dynasty, in the 19th century. Educated in Europe and inspired by the great châteaux of France, Prince Ivane returned to Georgia determined to elevate his homeland's wine culture to European standards — without sacrificing its ancient Georgian soul.

The estate's Renaissance-style palace, surrounded by formal French gardens, stands as a testament to this dual ambition. Below the palace, kilometres of underground tunnels serve as natural cellars — maintaining a constant temperature perfect for aging wines of extraordinary complexity and longevity.

After decades of Soviet-era nationalisation and subsequent revival, Château Mukhrani today stands as Georgia's leading fine wine producer — blending European precision with the irreplaceable character of Georgian terroir.

Two Traditions, One Vision

At Château Mukhrani, winemaking is a dialogue between worlds. The estate employs both traditional Georgian qvevri fermentation — using clay amphora buried in the earth — and modern European techniques, including temperature-controlled stainless steel fermentation and French oak barrel aging.

The cellar team carefully selects the method best suited to each grape variety and each harvest. The flagship Château Mukhrani Saperavi Reserve benefits from the depth and concentration that modern winemaking tools can provide — fermented with precision temperature control, then matured for 12 months in French oak barrels, producing a wine of great structure and elegance.

The estate's vineyards, planted in the mineral-rich volcanic and limestone soils of the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, benefit from altitude, Caucasus mountain breezes, and dramatic diurnal temperature variations that preserve freshness and aromatic complexity.
