Georgia's Legendary White Appellation

Tsinandali is not merely a wine — it is a name woven into the very fabric of Georgian culture. The village and the wine that bears its name have been celebrated in Georgian poetry, literature, and at the table of heads of state for over 150 years.

The Tsinandali appellation produces a defined style: a dry white wine blended from the Rkatsiteli and Mtsvane grape varieties, grown in the Tsinandali zone of Kakheti. The blend brings together Rkatsiteli's natural acidity and mineral precision with Mtsvane's aromatic lift and floral character — two grapes that have co-existed in Kakheti's vineyards for millennia.

Shumi Winery's version is crafted with meticulous attention to the freshness and aromatic purity that defines the best examples of this style. Cold fermentation in stainless steel preserves the fragrant complexity of both grape varieties at their finest.

Sensory Profile

Appearance

Light gold with warm amber highlights — a colour that evokes the late-afternoon sunlight of the Alazani River valley. Clear, bright, and inviting in the glass.

Nose (Aroma)

Fragrant and fresh — ripe peach, apricot, and white nectarine are complemented by subtle acacia blossom, honeysuckle, and a whisper of wild honey. Mtsvane contributes a lovely floral lift that makes the wine immediately approachable.

Palate (Taste)

Medium-bodied and elegantly structured, with Rkatsiteli's clean, bright acidity providing excellent freshness. Stone fruit flavours — peach, nectarine — unfold on the palate with a honeyed mid-palate weight. The finish is long, clean, and beautifully balanced.

Food Pairing

A superb accompaniment to Georgian cuisine: pkhali spinach and walnut rolls, grilled chicken with tkemali sauce, stuffed bell peppers, cream-based pasta dishes, grilled sea bass, and mild soft cheeses. A versatile table wine of exceptional quality.

Tsinandali — A Name Heard Around the World

The village of Tsinandali, located in the Telavi municipality of Kakheti, lent its name to one of Georgia's most celebrated and widely exported wine styles. The Tsinandali estate — now a museum and cultural heritage site — was historically the residence of the Georgian Romantic poet Alexander Chavchavadze, who planted European grape varieties alongside indigenous ones in the 19th century and began producing wines of European-influenced style.

Today, the Tsinandali DOC (Designated Origin of Control) protects the style and geographic integrity of wines produced from Rkatsiteli and Mtsvane grapes grown within the appellation's defined boundaries. Shumi Winery, located within the Tsinandali zone, draws on this proud history while applying contemporary winemaking precision to produce a wine that honours the appellation's legacy.
